February 14 is the most romantic holiday in the world - Valentine's Day. Even the most shy and timid can tell about their feelings on this day!
This day is named after a Christian priest who lived in the old days of the Roman Empire during the reign of Claudius II. He was called a cruel emperor because he believed that single unmarried men fought better than those who had lovers. The emperor issued a ban on marriages for love. St. Valentine was a priest, and in secret he married people in love. This did not go unnoticed, and then Valentine was sentenced to execution. While waiting for his time in prison, Valentine met the jailer's daughter and fell in love with her. He prepared a small card in the shape of a heart, where he confessed his feelings to her. On the bottom, he wrote "your Valentine." He was executed in the year 269, February 14. The girl didn't read the card until after his death. So Valentine became the patron saint of all lovers, and heart-shaped cards with declarations of love were called "valentines".
The most important symbol of this holiday is the valentine - a card in the shape of a heart. Traditionally, lovers exchange these cards to express their feelings.
